Sheriff's Office Provides Prescription Drop Boxes
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office recently installed two drop boxes where people may anonymously dispose of unwanted over-the-counter or prescription medications. One box is located in the lobby of the Durham County Courthouse (510 S Dillard St.) and the other is located at the Sheriff’s Office’s North Station (11821 U.S. 501 North, Rougemont). Both boxes are accessible during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. The boxes were donated by Durham Together for Resilient Youth (TRY) founder Wanda Boone. “Prescription drug abuse is on the rise in our community. Surveys show that the majority of people believe prescription drugs are safer than street drugs, but that simply isn’t true if those prescription drugs are used inappropriately,” Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews said. “I hope that by providing a safe and anonymous way for people to dispose of unwanted medications, we can help prevent unintentional poisonings and drug abuse, and protect the environment.” Additional drop boxes in Durham are located at: Durham Police Department District 2 Substation, 5285 N Roxboro Rd. Durham Police Department District 3 Substation, 8 Consultant Pl. Durham Police Department Headquarters, 505 W. Chapel Hill St. (available 24 hours a day)
