Congratulations to the inaugural Durham County Leadership Academy class. On Tuesday September 30, 16 Durham County employees were recognized for their achievement at the Durham Convention Center. Graduates of the Leadership Academy began their journey January 2014, and in the span of nine months, were led through a series of courses designed to further develop leadership potential. Academy instructors included Human Resources staff, the County Manager’s Office, department directors and outside facilitators. Joel Wright, Cognitive Behavioral Counselor at the Criminal Justice Resource Center and a Leadership Academy graduate, said the program lived up to expectations and more. “I was impressed with how committed the County is to making it a success”, he said. ”I gained not only an appreciation for the potential of leadership to empower individuals to do their best and be their best, but practical insight for how I can lead others in this way, regardless of my role or title." The goals of the Leadership Academy are to enhance leadership continuity and succession planning, foster leadership opportunities, harness talent and to expose more employees to opportunities for personal and professional development. The next session is scheduled to start January 2015.
