Recognizing World AIDS Day

Durham County commemorated World AIDS Day earlier this month with events designed to bring attention to the community's efforts to combat HIV. About 1,600 Durham County residents have HIV, according to a news release from the Department of Public Health. "We have to do more in order to increase the number of people who know their HIV status and link them to care," Dr. Arlene Seña, the County's Medical Director, said in the release. This year's World AIDS Day events included a ceremony at the LGBTQ Center of Durham. The HIV/STI Committee of the Partnership for a Healthy Durham is engaging on this critical community public health issue. Learn more about the committee's efforts here.
