Keeping Falls Lake Clean

Falls Lake is a valuable resource to Durham. Environmental Health establishes a baseline during the four weeks before Memorial Day, when the swim season officially starts. So far, testing shows E. coli levels to be well below the EPA suggested limit for recreational waters. Litter continues to be a problem. Many mornings the park rangers spend at least two hours clearing human debris off of the beach, and recovering the courtesy life vests. Those vests are sometimes thrown around on the ground or found floating in the lake. Putting trash in the right place is a great way to ensure all will be able to enjoy the beaches during these hot days. If you plan on spending the weekend in the water, take the time to keep our parks clean and safe. Learn more via a recent Time Warner Cable news story.
