Project Access Launches Health Equipment Loan Program

Project Access of Durham County recently launched HELP, the Health Equipment Loan Program. "There are many individuals in the community, with and without insurance, who do not have the money or coverage to purchase the equipment needed to ensure expedient recovery," said Catrina Lloyd with Project Access. "The HELP program fills that gap and betters the quality of life for those individuals." Lloyd said HELP diverts equipment from the landfill and instead puts it to good use in the community. The program is supported by a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Prize mini-grant awarded for this fiscal year. Community members can drop off or borrow used medical equipment at The Scrap Exchange on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Fridays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Participants in the loan program must show proof of Durham County residence, Lloyd said. For more information or to assist with the program, go to the HELP website.
